Deepening Relaxation: Harmony and Healing with Kum Nye | Feb 18-23

Live in Amsterdam & online | February 18 – 23 ’25

Five day Kum Nye Intensive retreat with Ton van der Scheer, Bram Williams and Iloy Scheerhoorn

Through Kum Nye we learn to appreciate the completely wholesome quality of living experience. Through this quality the whole body becomes refreshed, as if showered within by pure spring water. Not only the physical body quickens, but the mind and all senses are invigorated as well; sense impressions and thoughts come to life. A quality of relaxation informs every activity, even walking or eating. Our lives function smoothly, and we become healthy and balanced.

From Kum Nye Relaxation p 4.

Immerse yourself in the interplay of body, breath and senses

In this five-day Kum Nye Intensive we will experientially tap into the three levels of practice, relaxation and meditation. Kum Nye will be explored with a direct emphasis on the different levels of relaxation as described by Tarthang Tulku in his three Kum Nye books.

Practices from the first Kum Nye book that stimulate the flow of feeling will be alternated by Joy of being exercises opening space within and without.
Our Kum Nye experience will then be further expressed by Kum Nye Dancing which will open you into harmony with the whole, to be complete within.

Participants are recommended to bring a notebook for personal notes and if possible, all three Kum Nye books:

  • Kum Nye Tibetan Yoga ; available in Dutch and English
  • The Joy of Being: available in Dutch and English
  • Kum Nye Dancing: available in English

The books can be ordered through the Lotus Design Shop in Amsterdam.

This retreat is open to all but especially recommended for long -time Kum Nye practioners. Also seasoned meditators and dharma students will benefit from investigating the three levels of relaxation in their own embodiment.

As Kum Nye communicates a different aura to our experience, our deeply-held sense of identity begins to change at its core. As our thought processes slough off their characteristic anxiety, becoming more neutral, thinking no longer poses an obstacle to being”

Retreat instructors

Ton van der Scheer has been teaching Kum Nye in Leiden and at the Nyingma Center in Amsterdam since 2013. In 2016 and 2017 he followed teacher trainings with Arnaud Maitland for Kum Nye Relaxation, Joy of Being and Kum Nye Dancing. Partly because of this, he has paid extra attention to the more expressive ‘gestures’ of Kum Nye Dance in recent years. Ton studied Medieval History at Leiden University and works as a journalist for a magazine on horticulture .

Bram Williams is a long term student of yoga, dharma and Nyingma. As an experienced Kum Nye student and teacher he’s attended many programmes and trainings in California, as well as annual Kum Nye retreats in Holland and Germany. Bram now practices and teaches in London and Oxford. Currently studying fascial anatomy, Bram is also an occasional puppeteer and a qualified Lip-Reading Tutor.

Iloy Scheerhoorn has been a student of Tarthang Rinpoche since 2016. After his studies in economics and psychology, Iloy has become more involved in the Nyingma organization and finished the Kum Nye teacher training in 2023. Right now Iloy is living in the Nyingma Center in Amsterdam and before he lived at Odiyan. At Odiyan and Ratna Ling Iloy has been leading Kum Nye classes and worked as a pressman printing the Kangyur – Words of the Buddha.
